For the utmost in handling and grip, these KYB MacPherson strut cartridge replacements are the best you can buy for your Super Beetle. They come in two different models, one for '71 to "early" '73, and one for "late" '73 to '79. If you have a '73, the easiest way to tell which one you need is to look at the VIN number. If the VIN comes before #1333001655, it's early. If it's after #1333003656, it's late. We recommend replacing struts in pairs.
